Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Rajeshwari, a victim of a stray dog attack who was lucky enough to have dodged 15 blows from canines, shared the incident on Sunday afternoon and claimed that local authorities have been doing nothing about the threat of stray dogs. in the area, adding that the incident could have been fatal if children or the elderly had been involved.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Rajeshwari said, "I go for a morning walk every day. That day, while I was walking between block 3 and 4, there were two dogs there. I saw them and moved away from them. But one of those dogs barked and all the dogs started attacking me. I tried to scare them as they surrounded me. I fell down and the dogs started attacking me. Meanwhile, a car and a boy passed by. The dogs started to see this and ran away."

"The watchman also came and scared them. If it was a child or an old man, the incident could have been fatal. I have two dogs in my house. That's how I was able to handle the dogs. About 15 dogs attacked me. Many people are suffering like that, but no one answers. "When we restrict dogs from entering the facility, some people accuse us of not allowing them to feed the dogs," the victim said.

Rajeshwari suffered injuries after being attacked by a pack of 15 stray dogs while on a morning walk in Hyderabad. The incident, which was recorded on CCTV, occurred on June 21.

The victim's husband Badri complained that many tenants feed stray dogs within the premises of his rented accommodation.

"I live in MIG Flats, Chitrapuri colony, Manikonda. My wife goes for a morning walk every day at 6 am. On the morning of June 21, while she was walking, all the dogs attacked her. She tried to scare away the dogs . but after a while it fell," he said.

"She was only saved by the grace of God. As this happened early in the morning, there was no one around," Badri said.

"There are many tenants who feed these dogs on their premises. Before, when we tried to raise the issue, arguments arose," he said. "There are around 40 dogs here. We have no objection to dogs being pets, since I have two, but the 15 or 20 dogs that attacked my wife were stray dogs," Badri added.

Attacks by stray dogs are considered a danger to children and the elderly. India reportedly has the largest number of stray dogs in the world, along with the highest number of rabies deaths. Most rabies deaths are not reported.

Under the Animal Birth Control Rules 2001, stray dogs cannot be euthanized, only sterilized. Municipalities lack money to sterilize stray dogs.

Most Indians believe that stray dog attacks are common in their area and that the municipality does not take necessary measures to reduce dog bites.

Stray dogs may be rabid, injured, hungry, traumatized, anxious, or protecting their puppies. In such cases, canines may attack if provoked or feel threatened.
