Bhadohi (UP), a bride allegedly refused to marry her groom after she found him misbehaving in an inebriated condition and smoking marijuana during the wedding ceremony, police said on Thursday.

He told that people from the bride's side took the groom, Tehsildar Gautam, his father Jaiprakash and grandfather Mewa Lal hostage and demanded the return of Rs 8 lakh spent on the wedding preparations.

Pinky, daughter of Sheela Devi, resident of Fattupur in Kotwali police station area of ​​the city, was to be married to Gautam, resident of Jairampur in Jaunpur district. He told that when the wedding procession reached on Wednesday night, the groom was in an inebriated state and was abusing from the stage.

According to the bride's mother Sheela Devi, when some people saw this and reached the stage, the groom got down and left. After this he was seen smoking ganja backstage.

Angered by this, the bride came forward and refused to marry.

On receiving information about the incident, the police team reached the spot and advised both the parties to compromise. However, on Thursday morning the groom, his father and grandfather were allowed to leave without the wedding.
