Thane, A 59-year-old man has been arrested for killing his nine-year-old son by stuffing a paper ball in his mouth in Maharashtra's Thane district. Police gave this information on Wednesday.

The accused was drunk when the incident took place at Washala in Kasara area of ​​Sahapur taluka on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, he said, adding that the exact reason behind the crime was not yet known.

A police control room official said that due to domestic disputes, the man and his wife were living separately and the boy was living with his mother.

The boy went missing from his mother's house on Monday and family members started searching for him.

The official said the minor was found dead near his father's house around 8 am on Tuesday.

He said that after receiving the information, the police reached the spot and found a paper ball stuffed in the boy's mouth and his nose was bleeding.

The officer said investigation revealed that the man had started consuming alcohol excessively after his wife separated.

He said, on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, he drank alcohol and allegedly stuffed a ball made of torn notebook papers into the boy's mouth, resulting in his death.

Following a complaint by a relative of the deceased, the accused was arrested on Tuesday night and booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, the officer said.
