Palghar: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and murdered by her boyfriend in public in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Tuesday morning.
The video of the attack which took place in Chinchpada area of Vasai at around 8.30 am has surfaced on social media.
An officer said that the victim Aarti Yadav was going to work with her boyfriend Rohit Yadav when they had a fight on the way.
Rohit allegedly attacked the victim several times with a sharp object and continued attacking her even after she fell on the ground, they said.
The accused did not run away from the spot and sat on the stairs near the body, the officer said.
He said that a team of Valiv police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
"The accused attacked the woman with an industrial spanner and there were 18 wounds on her body," said senior inspector Jairaj Ranaware of Valiv police.
He said the victim and the detained accused lived in the same neighborhood in Nala Sopara and worked in an industrial estate.
The officer said the couple were in a relationship for the past six years, but there were problems between them as the accused suspected the woman of having an affair with another man.
In a video of the attack, the accused can be seen repeatedly attacking the woman, but no one nearby comes to her rescue.
According to police, some passersby stood by and watched the attack and some even made videos.
Police have detained a woman and a man who made a video of the attack and uploaded it on social media.
