Kochi: A 23-year-old woman, suspected to be a victim of sexual assault, hid her pregnancy, gave birth to a baby in the bathroom of her apartment early Friday and allegedly dumped the newborn on the road in front of her flat complex. Located in a posh residential area in this port city of Kerala.
Police said the woman was taken into custody after they were traced using the address on the Amazon delivery packet in which the baby was wrapped and thrown.

Sanitation workers of Kochi Corporation spotted the child's body on the roadside in posh Panampilly Nagar here around 8 am and informed the police.According to city police commissioner S Shyamsundar, the woman has confessed that she gave birth to the child in her bathroom around 5-5.30 am today (Friday) and later threw the child away in panic.
It is being told that the woman's parents, with whom she was living, were unaware of her pregnancy. He said, even he did not know about the delivery, because my delivery took place inside the bathroom, which was closed by the woman.
After police questioned the parents and the woman in connection with the incident, the commissioner said, "The parents were not aware of the pregnancy until the police came to Florida and questioned them."
However, in this case the police suspect an element of coercion or rape. Samsundar said, “I suspect that the girl was raped.This matter will also be investigated."
"We have admitted the victim to the hospital to provide proper medical treatment. The girl will be arrested on murder charges," the police officer said.
The commissioner said whether the child was born dead or alive would be known only after post-mortem.
He said she allegedly threw the child on the road three hours after delivery.The city police chief also said that the woman was unmarried and was in a state of shock.
The officer said that the entire matter will be clear only after detailed interrogation.
