“Widespread light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and gusty winds (30-40 km/hr) is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds. There is a possibility of sporadic light/moderate rain. (30-40 km/hr over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana and Rayalaseema during next five days), the weather bulletin said.

It attributed the rains to a cyclonic circulation over south coastal Tamil Nadu and its adjoining areas and another cyclonic circulation over north Kerala and its adjoining areas.

The IMD has also issued a warning of heat wave and hot and humid weather for the next five days in the northern and eastern states.

* Heat wave to severe heat wave likely in many/most areas of Delhi-Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab, Rajasthan; West Uttar Pradesh and Northwest Madhya Pradesh during 20-24 May.

* There is a possibility of heat wave in different parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh on May 21-22; Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Northeast Madhya Pradesh during 20-24 May; Uttarakhand, Bihar on 20 May; and Odisha during 21–23 May.

* Hot and humid weather is likely over Konkan and Goa, Bihar Jharkhand on May 20-21; Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on 20 May.

* Hot night conditions are likely to persist over western Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan during May 20-24.

The IMD bulletin also said further southwest monsoon over some parts of southeast Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maldives, Comorin area and some more parts of south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea. Conditions are favorable for growth. Next 2-3 days.
