According to IITM, the four-month course in hybrid mode through an online platform is for final year science and engineering students and anyone with a technical background interested in water quality.

The course organizers are working towards creating a water map of India and the world by the students, which will contribute to building water literacy.

After a detailed introduction to the basic aspects of water quality, students will conduct practical tests, including surveys. IITM said that upon completion they will receive a certificate which can be submitted as part of their degree program through their institute.

Welcoming all those interested in conserving water quality to participate in this course, Professor Thalappil Pradeep, Department of Chemistry, IITM, said: “Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals is possible only when people Understand the factors that limit water quality. This course will also make people water-literate. Is part of an initiative.

The course has been designed based on a pilot study conducted last summer involving college students in various locations in Tamil Nadu (such as Chennai and Erode among others). Data from this effort were combined with spatial coordinates and inputs from surveys to create online data on water quality.
