Calibration is important for life-saving medical devices as it will help check the accuracy of medical devices for accurate disease diagnosis, thereby improving treatment.

The new Mobil facility will ensure quality health care, irrespective of geographical locations across the country. This will also help in testing and maintenance of medical equipment that is used in various hospitals including remote villages.

"Proper diagnosis and treatment are extremely important and require accurate and frequent calibration of medical equipment," said Professor V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras.

The initiative promotes joint national Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-3) that call for health and well-being for all.

The infrastructure of the mobile unit includes state-of-the-art equipment that will test the safety of medical devices as per international standards.

“With the rising cost of calibration, this effort not only reduces the cost of calibration but also reduces transportation costs and time required. Professor Kamakoti said, this is a progressive step towards affordable, scalable, quality health care for all.
