New Delhi: India's industrial output growth reached a four-month high of 5.7 per cent in February 2024, mainly due to the good performance of the mining sector, according to official data released on Friday.

Factory output growth, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), stood at 6 per cent in February 2023.

The previous highest level of IIP was recorded at 11.9 per cent in October 2023, which declined to 2.5 per cent in November, 4.2 per cent in December and 4.1 per cent in January 2024.

During the April-February period of 2023-24, IIP growth reached 5.9 per cent, up from 5.6 per cent in the year-ago period.

India's index of industrial production grew by 5.7 per cent in February 2024, according to a release from the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.According to the latest data, mining output growth increased to 8 percent in February from 4.8 percent in the same month a year ago.

Manufacturing sector output growth declined to 5 percent in February, from 5.9 percent a year ago.

The growth rate of electricity production also slowed down to 7.5 percent in February, which was 8.2 percent in the same month last year.

As per use-base classification, capital goods segment growth fell to 1.2 per cent in February 2024, compared to 11 per cent in the year-ago period.

The production of consumer durables increased by 12.3 percent in February this year.It declined by 4.1 percent in February 2023.

The production of consumer non-durable goods declined by 3.8 percent during the month compared to a growth of 12.5 percent in February 2023.

According to the data, infrastructure/construction goods registered a growth of 8.5 per cent in February 2024 as against 9 per cent growth in the year-ago period.

The data also showed that the production of primary commodities registered a growth of 5.9 percent in February this year, which was less than 7 percent a year ago.

The expansion in the intermediate goods segment during the period under review was 9.5 per cent, higher than the 1 per cent recorded in the same period a year ago.
