Bengaluru: The Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media, one of the premier journalism institutes, has said it will no longer offer programs in journalism.

The Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media (IIJNM) said this in an email sent to the candidates who had applied and were selected for the academic year 2024-25.

Sources in the institute said, this decision has been taken to avoid financial losses.

“The management of the Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media (IIJNM) regrets to inform you that we will no longer offer the program in Journalism. This decision has been taken because the number of applicants so far this year is much less than the required number. Viable programme,” IIJNM said in an email.

Stating that over the past 24 years, IIJNM has been a school of excellence offering the best programs among India's colleges in the journalism profession, it said, "However, given the recent environment in which we are operating, it It is possible that the program could not attract enough students to avoid huge financial losses to continue."

It said, “Without waiting for the planned start of the course on July 22, 2024 this year, we are informing you of the closure of our beloved institute. We recognize that this may cause you some difficulty, but we have no other option."

The institute has offered to refund the admission fees paid within 10 days of receipt of banking details.
