Malkangiri (Odisha): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the BJP will ensure free pilgrimage of five lakh people from Odisha to the Ram temple in Ayodhya if the party comes to power in the eastern state.

Addressing an election rally at Kalimela here, the senior BJP leader also took a dig at the ruling BJD for naming villages with numbers in Malkangiri district.

“In Assam, I have decided to take one lakh people to Ayodhya, and the state government will bear the expense. Since Odisha is bigger than Assam, 5 lakh people should get this facility. Sarma said the new BJP chief minister will facilitate the pilgrimage if the party comes to power in Odisha.

Sarma also attempted to connect with the large Bengali-speaking population in Malkangiri district and assured people that a Bengali teacher would be appointed, among other promises.

About one lakh Bengali-speaking people were resettled in Malkangiri district after the 1971 Bangladesh war.

On the names of villages in the district with numbers such as 'MV-82, MV-83', the Assam Chief Minister said: "Only prisoners in jails are given numbers, but here, villages are named with numbers. It is a matter of concern for the people. Is an insult to.”

Sarma said, “Appointment of Bengali teachers and changing the names of these villages are two guarantees of the BJP.”

He also criticized the BJD government for "failing" to provide employment to the youth of Odisha.

Sarma said, "They are not getting jobs, question papers are being leaked... If BJ government is formed, we will give jobs to 3 lakh youth on the basis of merit."
