"In the run-up to the general elections 2024, substantial flying efforts have been made in the last few months by medium-lift helicopters (Mi-17 variants), light utility helicopters (Chetak) and indigenously built advanced light helicopters (ALH Dhruv)." The IAF said in a statement.

Officials said the force has been actively involved in airlifting electronic voting machines (EVMs) and deploying Election Commission of India (ECI) personnel on election duties, as done during previous general or assembly elections. This work was time-bound as polling officers had to be deployed to each remote polling station two days before the election date and removed on the day of polling.

"The IAF played a key role in five of the seven phases of the general elections and flew more than 1,750 sorties and flew more than 1,000 hours," it said.

The seven-phase elections were held from April 19 to June 1 while the counting of votes took place on June 4.

The ECI had declared results for 542 out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, in which the BJP won 240 seats and the Congress 99 seats.From Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu and Nagaland to Gujarat, the ECI team expanded across the country to reach every voter in the country.
