Channapatna (Karnataka) [India], Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today expressed regret over former MP Kumaraswamy's derogatory comments towards government employees, calling them "slaves".

Speaking at the 'Government Around the Corner' program in the taluk, Shivakumar stated, "I apologize for the statement made by the former MLA about government employees who dedicate their lives to serving the people."

He was indirectly referring to Union Minister Kumaraswamy calling government employees "slaves" when he was the Channapatna MLA.

He emphasized on the noble nature of government work, quoting the motto that adorns the Vidhana Soudha and invoked the legacy of Kengal Hanumanthaiah of the district, underlining the principled commitment of government employees.

"Government work is God's work, the motto is written on the Vidhana Soudha built by Kengal Hanumanthaiah, a native of this district. Government employees work on the same principle," he added.

Shivakumar warned officials that strict action would be taken if they demanded bribes from farmers and the poor. "Tell me if any government official or employee asks for bribes, I will take care of it. Government employees receive salaries, while farmers do not receive salary or pension. Officials have to put themselves in the shoes of farmers and the poor and understand their needs," he said. " he said.

"The previous MLA had not done anything for the electorate, but I will not talk about that now. I will work hard to win them over. I have brought the government to your doorstep to solve your problems. Many people are asking for a pension, house and places, "We will look into it. The previous MLA had no intention of doing these things," he added.

"I will get a special grant of Rs 150-200 million to complete all the pending works in the taluk. The work of supplying water at 1.5 TMC from Sattegala is being supplied at a cost of Rs 540 million. Sanction has been made 1.40 crore to raise a retaining wall against Kodihalla," he explained.

"We will establish world-class Karnataka Public Schools in the district and work on some of the schools has started in association with Toyota," he said.
