Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission on Saturday sought clarification from the management of the famous Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple here on the demand for a separate queue for devotees coming from the state capital.

Acting chairman of the commission and judicial member K Baijunath intervened in the matter on the basis of a complaint filed by two residents here.

A commission statement here said the panel has sought a report in this regard from the temple executive officer within 15 days.

The complainants demanded that a special queuing system for residents of Thiruvananthapuram should be implemented at the Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple, which is visited by thousands of devotees from different states.

A similar queue system for local devotees is already in place at Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple in Thrissur district and several other temples in neighboring Tamil Nadu, he said.

The statement quoted the complainants as saying that if the special queuing system is implemented, the freedom of worship guaranteed by the Constitution can be ensured.
