“We are taking this incident very seriously,” a company spokesperson said in a protected statement. We have ceased manufacturing (ice cream) at this third-party facility. We have segregated the said product at the facility, our warehouses and are in the process of doing the same at the market level.

The company on Wednesday acknowledged the customer complaint - which was raised by one Dr Brendan Serrao of Malad West - that "a foreign object was found in one of our products ordered through the delivery partner."

The spokesperson said the quality and safety of the product was their top priority and they were addressing the situation, while customer Dr. Serrao had filed an official police complaint.“We are a law-abiding company and will fully cooperate and support the authorities as they thoroughly investigate this matter,” the spokesperson said.

Official sources said the state Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has taken note of the matter and is likely to intervene, though officials declined to speak on record.

In a heartbreaking incident, a Mumbai doctor who ordered ice cream online was stunned to find that it contained a severed piece of a human finger, leaving the authorities in a tizzy.

The surprising thing happened on Wednesday when Dr. Brandon Serrao asked his sister to add some ice cream to her online grocery shopping list.

When Yummo was given delicious cones of ice cream, she started to taste them, but she felt something rough and strange in her mouth. The doctor alleged that when he pulled it out he was horrified to see that it was a small piece of a severed human finger, about 2 centimeters long.

Feeling a bad taste in his mouth, Dr Serrao immediately lodged a complaint with the Malad police station, which has initiated an investigation and also sent the finger fragment for forensic analysis.

Dr Serrao told local media persons that given his medical expertise, he identified the human body fragment and kept it in an ice-pack to show it to the police while filing his complaint.
