Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal campaigned for his rival-turned-party colleague Rajinder Rana, one of the six Congress rebels who recently joined the BJP, for the by-election in Sujanpur Assembly constituency. .

Rana defeated former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dhumal in the 2014 assembly elections and won the seat again in the 2022 elections by defeating BJP's Captain Ranjit Singh.

Unlike Sukhu, Singh has rebelled against the BJP and announced to contest the by-election as an independent.

During a Dalit conference organized by Rana in Patlandar on Friday, Dhumal urged people to choose BJP as it is the only party which works for the welfare of the people.

Dhumal told people from Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes at the program that Rana has joined the BJP and his victory should be ensured.Terming Congress as anti-people, Dhumal called upon the party cadre to retain their booths and ensure maximum turnout on June 1. H said that in such elections every vote counts.

He cautioned people against voting for the Congress, saying that if the opposition party wins, the country will be ruined and the facilities provided by the BJP-led NDA government at the Center will be withdrawn.

Rana said he is basically a BJP man and joining the saffron party is like a homecoming for him as he realized that Congress is not a people-friendly party but a party of a few.

He urged people to unite behind the BJP and expose the evil intentions of the Congress.In Himachal Pradesh, by-elections are being held along with the Lok Sabha elections to be held on June 1 on six assembly seats vacant after the disqualification of rebel Congress MLAs.

Rana, a three-time MLA, was among the six Congress MLAs who, along with three independent MLAs, voted in favor of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha elections on February 27.

On March 23, all the MLAs joined the BJP, following which six rebels, including Rana, were given tickets from their respective assembly seats.RHL
