New Delhi: Wednesday was the hottest night in Delhi in 12 years with the minimum temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, eight degrees above the season's normal, the weather office said.

The previous hottest night in the city was recorded in June, 2012 when the minimum temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius.

The hottest night of this season was recorded in Delhi on Tuesday at 33.8 degrees Celsius.

With no respite from the heat wave, hospitals across Delhi-NCR are seeing a rush of patients complaining of heat stroke and exhaustion. Doctors have advised the elderly and patients with weak immunity to avoid going out.

Last month, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj had announced that Delhi government-run hospitals would reserve two beds each for heatstroke patients, while LNJP Hospital would reserve five beds.

According to a private water forecasting agency, Delhi may get some respite from the scorching heat from Wednesday.

Light rain is expected in the city due to the fresh western disturbance on June 20.
