New Delhi: Congress on Saturday alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was calling district magistrates and collectors and making "gross and brazen" threats.

During elections the District Magistrate and Collector are the returning officers of their respective districts.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that Shah had already spoken to 150 DMs or collectors and said this showed "how desperate the BJP is".

With the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections ending on Saturday, the results of the election will be declared on June 4.

"The outgoing Home Minister has been calling DMs/Collectors. Till now he has spoken to 150 of them. This is a clear and brazen threat which shows how desperate the BJP is," he said in a post on X.

He said, "Let it be very clear: the will of the people will prevail and on June 4, Mr Modi, Mr Shah and the BJP will be out and Bharat Janbandhan will be victorious."

Ramesh said that officials should not come under any pressure and should follow the Constitution. He said that he is being monitored.
