New Delhi [India], Hockey India on Saturday condoled the demise of veteran sports journalist Harpal Singh Bedi. He died in New Delhi on Saturday morning. He was 72 years old.

With over three decades in the profession, Harpal Singh Bedi had covered eight Olympic Games and nine Asian Games apart from many other major international sporting events. He also covered all three editions of the prestigious FIH Men's Hockey World Cup held in India. He covered the most recent events held in New Delhi in 2010, Bhubaneswar in 2018 and Bhubaneswar-Rourkela in 2023.

Condoling his demise, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, "Harpal Singh Bedi was a great supporter of Indian hockey. The hockey fraternity also respected him very much. During my days as a player, we had many Used to exchange thoughts, ideas and feelings." Sports and how can we further improve sports to make the country more proud, I remember whenever we were in Delhi he was very passionate about sports and his work. Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh also expressed condolences. “I am deeply shocked by the demise of Harpal Singh Bedi, a highly respected sports journalist and great supporter of Indian hockey. It is a sad day for the sports journalist fraternity in India and I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends Hockey India shares their grief."
