Hong Kong, September 16: This year's Mid-Autumn Festival features an impressive lineup of events that surpasses those of previous years. The classic Fire Dragon Dance has been improved by expanding the performance area and introducing a live broadcast area in Victoria Park for three consecutive nights (September 16 to 18), attracting more visitors and locals to feel the boundless vitality of the traditional festival. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 17), the festive experience will be elevated even further with the debut of the Hong Kong Tourism Board's (HKTB) first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival-themed drone show at where thousands of drones weave various impressive scenes to convey festive blessings.

Expanded performance area and light arts elements in classical fire dragon dance performanceThe Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, fully supported by HKTB, will expand its route this year from Wun Sha Street to Tung Lo Wan Street. Designated performance areas have also been added to accommodate a larger audience at the venue, allowing them to experience the vibrant charm of the classic Dance of the Fire Dragon in person. There will also be a live broadcast of Fire Dragon Dance in Victoria Park for three consecutive nights (September 16-18), bringing unlimited festive vitality to the audience in real time.

This year's show shows a harmonious combination of modernity and tradition. Approximately 100 children will show their dedication by waving a fire dragon illuminated by around 10,000 LED lights, reinterpreting traditional festive culture in a contemporary way. This dazzling little fire dragon will appear next to the classic century-old fire dragon, symbolizing the transmission of cultural heritage to the next generation. For the first time, the event will feature a variety of action-packed performances, including jumping rope and a fluorescent nunchaku show, injecting youthful vitality into the traditional holiday celebration. Visitors can also explore the nearby Moreton Terrace temporary playground to capture photos with a four-metre-wide illuminated installation of a full moon. HKTB's first Mid-Autumn drone show reinterprets traditions in a new wayOn the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 17), HKTB will present its first Mid-Autumn-themed drone show on the Wan waterfront Chai. An enchanting Jade Rabbit will adorn the sky above Victoria Harbour, inviting the public to take part in traditional Mid-Autumn Festival activities such as admiring the moon and sipping tea while enjoying the stunning skyline. The event will also feature lantern displays and fire dragon performances in the sky, complementing the classic fire dragon scene in Tai Hang and sending warm wishes for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Spectators should also pay special attention, as the Jade Rabbit will introduce a surprise guest to celebrate the festival with visitors and locals alike.

During the festival, HKTB will organize several photo-worthy festive installations in Tai Hang, such as the fire dragon head, dragon pearl, and LED-lit fa pai for the public to enjoy festive photo ops. Additionally, two brilliant Bright Ring Trams will be adorned with vibrant fire dragons as they travel around Hong Kong Island. Popular tourist spots, such as the central level escalators, MTR digital screens, and HKTB visitor centers at the airport and Kowloon, will also be decorated with fire dragon elements. "Fire dragons" jumping through streets and alleys will create a festive atmosphere and radiate joy throughout the city.

HKTB also released a promotional video about the Dance of the Fire Dragon in Hong Kong comic style to tell the authentic story of the Fire Dragon and the spirits of the tradition on its social platform. From the planning of the event, the construction of the fire dragon and the spinning of the dragon pearl, to the distribution of incense sticks and the ritual of serving tea, the video meticulously recreates this intangible cultural heritage of the Tai Hang community, including Lin Fa Temple, where the fire dragon is located. comes to life with its dotted eyes, and Wun Sha Street, where the dance takes place, tells the compelling cultural story of this unique Hong Kong tradition.
