In the study, researchers from the Laboratory for Computational Social Systems (LCS2) led by Professor Tanmay Chakraborty of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, conducted an in-depth statistical and econometric analysis covering 260,000 posts on 'X' by 17,000 users and showed That more than 34 percent of users prefer 'Hinglish' to connect with their followers more effectively.

The study shows that the Hinglish population has grown steadily between 2014 and 2022, with an annual growth rate of 1.2 percent, and the use of Hinglish on 'X' has increased by 2 percent annually.

Researchers said this growth is driven by broader audience engagement and a desire for relatability.

The researchers also elaborated on the influence of Bollywood on the development of Hinglish, repeatedly mentioning famous actors who contributed to the spread of Hinglish.

The study also highlighted socio-economic factors such as living standards and Internet activity as key drivers of Hinglish adoption.

Chakraborty said, "Taking these external factors into account, we developed an econometric model to predict the future growth of Hinglish. This model helps to understand the broader implication of socio-economic conditions on language use "

Additionally, researchers studied the dynamics of language use, which revealed that not all Hindi words are equally likely to be mixed with English.

The context of the conversation often changes how words are used, with political 'X' posts exhibiting the highest level of code-mixing, followed by Bollywood and sports.
