Una (Himachal Pradesh), Una district of Himachal Pradesh has been rated the best in the country for implementing the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Joint Action Plan ‘A War Against Drugs’, said Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal. . on Friday.

Lal accepted the award from Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 30 June.

The Deputy Commissioner said that Una district was the first in the country to implement this action plan, a joint initiative of NCPCR and Narcotics Control Bureau launched in February 2021. Its objective is to spread awareness against drugs and substance abuse in schools and colleges.

He said that various departments have made commendable contribution in the 'Nasha Mukt Una Campaign', which was implemented as a pilot project and has yielded positive results.

Lal said that under the campaign, 26,000 students were involved through various skill and life development programs at school and college level to raise awareness against drug abuse. Additionally, around 247 teachers and school heads received training.

He said that the main objective of the program is to strengthen the emotional and mental health of the students and keep them away from negative thoughts which can lead to drug addiction.

Lal said that along with this, 'Har Ghar Dastak Abhiyaan' was also launched in one lakh houses in Una to raise awareness against drug abuse. He said that under this initiative people were made aware about the ill effects of drugs.

The Deputy Commissioner thanked Una residents for joining the 'Drug Free Una Campaign' and hoped that they would continue to cooperate in future campaigns to make the district drug free.
