Una (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday laid the foundation stone of a 10 MW solar power project at Aghlor in Kutlehar Assembly constituency of district A.

This project, which will be constructed on an area of 19 hectares, will be completed in three months and will generate 22.73 million units of power every year, thus generating eight million rupees as revenue to the state exchequer. This project will also help reduce 791 tons of carbon emissions.

The Chief Minister said this was the second solar power project in Una district after the 32 MW Pekhubela projects, which was completed in a record time of six months and would generate revenue of Rs 20 crore.

He said that despite being a power plus state, Himachal Pradesh purchases electricity in the open market between the months of October to March spending around Rs. 1,500 crore as power production in hydropower projects is minimized during winters due to receding water level in rivers.

Sukhu said the state government had signed an agreement with Oil India Company for production of green hydrogen and emphasis was being laid on harnessing solar energy. The government was also encouraging harnessing of solar energy in the private sector and had set a target of harnessing 200 MW of solar energy in a year.

He said the State received only 12 percent royalties on hydroelectric projects, which was not enough. Although SJVNL wanted to set up a solar power project in Aghlor, the state government decided to take it up on its own. The government is determined to manage the finances of various development projects and make them self-reliant, the Chief Minister said.

He said the previous BJP government under Jai Ram Thakur looted the state's resources while the present government was trying hard to safeguard them.

During the last one and a half years notable decisions have been taken for the welfare of the people and these measures have also resulted in earning additional income of Rs. 2200 crores. The state government had returned OPS to its employees and women were getting Rs. 1500 per month.

He added that Rs. 18,000 per year would be provided to women under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The Chief Minister said that the BJP conspired to destabilize the elected government in the state, but the people of the state have rejected the politics of horse-trading.

Sukhu said people were asking independent MLAs why they tendered their resignation when they were not comfortable with the Congress government. He added that in the by-elections the federated people will once again teach them a lesson.

He thanked the people of the area for their sincere support to Congress candidate Vivek Sharma at Kutlehar bypsoll. MLA Vivek Sharma thanked the Chief Minister for the foundation stone of 10 MW solar power project in Kutlehar Assembly constituency.
