New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted two weeks parole to a man serving life imprisonment for murder to attend his engagement ceremony and wedding.

Giving relief to Rahul Dev, the court said that he had been granted parole earlier also and he had surrendered on time.

Justice Amit Sharma said, "In the totality of the facts and circumstances, I accept the present petition. The petitioner is granted parole for a period of two weeks."

Dev was convicted in 2014 of murder and causing disappearance of evidence or furnishing false information under the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to life imprisonment.

She approached the court seeking four weeks' parole to get engaged. The wedding is scheduled to take place on April 30 at an Arya Samaj temple here.

The nominal roll obtained from Mandoli jail, where he is lodged, states that Dey was in custody for 14 years, six months and 25 days with remission.

The court said the status report submitted by the jail showed that he had availed parole from January 29 to March 5 and had surrendered on time on March 6.

The court directed that the parole will be counted from the date of release of the convict and asked him to surrender before the jail superintendent immediately on expiry of the parole.
