Ranchi, Five days after coming out of jail, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is scheduled to chair a meeting of India Bloc MLAs on Wednesday, alliance MLAs said here.

Soren, the working president of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was released from jail on June 28 after the High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case related to the land scam.

"In view of the Jharkhand assembly elections, our party had asked us to attend the meeting of India Block MLAs on Wednesday," a Congress MLA said on condition of anonymity.

The MLA said the meeting is important as the alliance needs to prepare its strategy for the elections to be held later this year.

JMM minister Mithilesh Kumar also said that the meeting has been called to discuss the strategies for the upcoming assembly elections.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that the leadership issue may also be discussed in the meeting as after the arrest of Hemant Soren by ED, his close aide Champai Soren has been handed over the command of the state.

JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said the agenda of the meeting was "political development" in the state.

Apart from Chief Minister Champai Soren, Hemant Soren's brother and minister Basant Soren and wife Kalpana Soren are likely to attend the meeting.

Kalpana was recently elected MLA from Gandey seat in the by-election held after the seat became vacant after the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed.

In his first public rally after his release from jail, Hemant Soren had claimed that the BJP was planning to hold assembly elections in Jharkhand earlier.

He also declared a "revolt" against "feudal forces", stating that the opposition Indian bloc would oust the BJP from the entire country.

Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in a money laundering case related to the alleged land scam.
