Islamabad, Dr. Helen Mary Roberts, serving in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps, has created history by becoming the first woman from the Christian and minority community to achieve the rank of Brigadier in the history of the country.

Brigadier Helen was among the Pakistan Army officers who were promoted to brigadier and full colonel by the selection board, The News reported on Sunday.

Congratulating Helen on her promotion to Brigadier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the entire nation is proud of her and thousands of hardworking women like her from minority communities who are serving the nation with distinction.

He said, "I myself and the entire nation congratulate Brigadier Helen Mary Roberts on getting the honor of becoming the first minority woman to be promoted as Brigadier in the Pakistan Army."

Last year, during Christmas celebrations at Christ Church in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir had lauded the role played by the minority community in the country's development.

Brigadier Dr. Helen is a senior pathologist and has been serving in the Pakistan Army for the last 26 years.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in 2021, Muslims constitute 96.47 percent of the country, followed by 2.14 percent Hindus, 1.27 percent Christians, 0.09 percent Ahmadi Muslims and 0.02 percent others.
