Itanagar: Several acres of crops have been submerged in water due to heavy rains in Leparada district of Arunachal Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday.

Officials said the Aalo-Pangin Pasighat road in Siang district was blocked due to landslides caused by heavy rains.

Leparada District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) T Pema said that district administration officials are assessing the situation arising out of continuous rains.

He said officials were visiting rice farming fields that were submerged in water after heavy rains.

DDMO has appealed to people living near river banks and landslide prone areas to move to safe places.

“We are keeping a strict vigil in the flood-affected areas,” he said.

Road communication was disrupted in Siang district near Yexing due to landslides, blocking the Aalo-Pangin-Pasighat road.

Officials said several commercial and private vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway as the road was blocked due to huge piles of debris.
