The LG has directed that the three-hour break for workers has already been implemented by the Delhi Development Authority from May 20 and will continue at all sites till the temperature falls below 40 degrees Celsius.

Officials said the LG had on May 20 directed the DDA to make adequate arrangements to provide water and coconut water to workers at construction sites so that they could stay hydrated.

He has directed that the Chief Secretary should immediately call a meeting of officials of PWD, DJB, I&FC, MCD, NDMC, Electricity Department, DUSIB and issue necessary instructions to protect the laborers and supervisory staff from extreme heat conditions, he said.

Further, he has directed that to provide relief to bus passengers, earthen pots with drinking water should be arranged at bus queue shelters, tankers with treated water from STPs should be deployed for sprinkling on roads, high-rise buildings. But activators should be installed for water sprinkling. He said that roads will be built to deal with pollution and provide relief to the people.
