Thiruvananthapuram, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a heat wave warning in Kollam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts of Kerala.

IMD said in a statement that heat wave conditions will persist at many places in these districts on April 27 and 28.

The alert was issued in view of the extreme heat recorded in the last few days and the temperature predicted to rise to 41 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and 40 degrees Celsius in Kollam and Thrissur districts, I said.

Officials said people should exercise extreme caution during such situations.

People were likely to suffer sunburns and heatstroke, officials said, adding that heatstroke could also result in death.

Officials also advised people to carry umbrellas and drink plenty of water when going out to avoid dehydration.

Among several instructions, the IMD urged people to avoid going out during the day as much as possible and postpone all public events till the evening.
