Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday expressed grief over the Kanchenjunga Express train accident in West Bengal's Darjeeling district.

The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the accident and described the accident as 'sad and heart-breaking'.

CM Yogi posted on his official I pray." Place at his feet and bless the injured for their speedy recovery."

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government for neglecting passenger amenities and focusing only on beauty of words.

Speaking to reporters at the Kolkata airport before leaving for Siliguri, the Chief Minister said, "They (BJP) have a lot of talk and beautification of words. It is just like fashion. But they do not care about the convenience of the passengers. Don't keep.,

Eight people were killed and about 25 to 30 injured when a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express near New Jalpaiguri on Monday morning, a senior North Frontier Railway (NFR) official said.

The accident took place at Ruidhasa near Rangpani station of Katihar Railway Division ahead of New Jalpaiguri Junction at around 8:45 am today. This area falls in Siliguri subdivision of Darjeeling district.

According to Sabyasachi Dey, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the Kanchenjunga Express, running between Silchar in Assam and Sealdah in Kolkata, was going from Agartala in Tripura to Sealdah when the goods train hit it from behind.

A wagon of the Kanchenjunga Express train was left hanging in the air after it was hit by a goods train at Ruidhasa near Rangpani station under Siliguri sub-division in Darjeeling district.
