A senior police officer said on Wednesday that a head constable in Kanpur (UP) died due to suspected heat stroke.

He denied any negligence in providing treatment to Brij Kishore (52), who died on Tuesday, after a purported video surfaced on social media in which the policeman was seen lying unconscious while his colleague was on the phone. Was recording his video.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Collectorganj) Mohammad Mohsin Khan said that Jhansi resident Kishore, attached to the Reserve Police Line, had gone to Kanpur Central Station on Tuesday to catch a train to his native place.

As soon as he reached the station gate, he felt dizzy and managed to go to a nearby shop, where he fainted due to heat stroke. They were later taken to a nearby police booth where sub-inspector Jag Pratap Singh came to assist them, the ACP said.

The ACP said, during investigation, it was found that the SI had given water and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the teenager to save his life.

He told that the SI had made a video and sought information from the constable whether any untoward incident had happened to him.

"The SI also took the policeman to the hospital where he died during treatment," he said.

When the SI was inquiring about the health of the constable, someone made a video and posted it online, the officer said.
