Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL that questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent election to the Lok Sabha and alleged that he is a British citizen. Had demanded withdrawal.

"Accordingly, the petition is dismissed as withdrawn with liberty to approach the competent authority under Section 9(2) of the Citizenship Act, 1955," the Lucknow bench of the high court said in its order.

A bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Om Prakash Shukla passed the order after petitioner S Vignesh Shishir sought withdrawal of his PIL with liberty to approach the competent authority under the Citizenship Act 1955 after presenting some lengthy arguments in the court. demanded. His complaint.

Shishir, who claims to be a farmer from Karnataka and a member of a political party, had filed the PIL against Rahul Gandhi seeking issuance of a writ-as-warrant, which can be used to arrest a person while holding public office. It is done to challenge authority.

It alleged that Gandhi was a British citizen and was not eligible to contest elections in India.

Gandhi, a former Congress president, is a five-time MP and currently the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. He represents the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
