Indore, Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday adjourned till May 24 the hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed by former Congress leader Akshay Kanti Bam in the attempt to murder case.

What is more troublesome for him is that the local police confirmed that they have received an arrest warrant issued against him and his father by the sessions court.

Bam (46), who had filed nomination as Congress candidate for Indore Lok Sabha constituency, withdrew from the race on the last date and later joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

He moved the high court for anticipatory bail after a trial court issued arrest warrants against him and his father Kantilal (75) on May 10, in response to a plea by Yunus Patel, a farmer who owned land on both of them. Was accused of trying to kill him. The dispute happened 17 years ago

On Friday, Patel's lawyer Mukesh Deval sought time to present his objections, "Accepting our plea, the HC has fixed the next hearing for May 24," the lawyer said.Meanwhile, police said they have obtained an arrest warrant against the father-son duo.

Khajrana police station in-charge Sujit Srivastava said, "A search has been started for him to execute the warrant."

No policeman was seen outside Bam's house on Friday.

The police had provided him security as they expected there would be trouble when he withdrew his nomination papers and put the Congress in an embarrassing situation where it had no candidate.

When asked why he was enjoying security even after arrest warrants were issued, the police had said that they had not received the warrants yet.

The magistrate's court on April 24 added charges of attempt to murder against Bam and his father in the 17-year-old case.Five days later, Bam withdrew his nomination.
