New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the DDA and MCD to finalize the agency to survey its land in the national capital and set a deadline for the state to complete the task.

The court order came on a petition related to unauthorized construction in Delhi, including in areas near centrally protected monuments.

Counsel appearing for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said that a meeting was held between the MCD Commissioner and the Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) regarding this issue and it was decided that their respective lands in Delhi be surveyed. . Steps will be taken to ascertain their condition and it will be revisited every six months to check changes.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan Singh and Justice Manmeet PS Arora said, "Both the MCD and the DDA are directed to finalize the agency by which the survey of Delhi is to be conducted and provide a timeline as to when it will be completed."

During the hearing, the court suggested that the entire city, including forest areas, should be surveyed by the authorities.

Counsel for MCD pointed out that each agency is responsible for its own land and this practice can be replicated by other land owning agencies also.

The lawyer said, “We are going to make a map of the entire area under the purview of MCD, DDA. We will keep an eye on it and re-inspect it every six months so that if there is any change in the construction, action will be taken against it. "

He also said that the meeting focused on new technology like satellite imagery, digital maps and drone surveys and proposed that the survey of MCD and DDA lands be done by the Survey of India.

The next hearing of the case will be on July 2.
