New Delhi, The Delhi High Court has sought NTA's stand on the plea of a 19-year-old NEET aspirant who is seeking grace marks after receiving a torn OM sheet.

Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Center on the candidate's plea and directed them to preserve the original OMR (Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet. OMR sheet is a pre-printed paper security document for the exam. And it includes personal information of the candidate like name, date of birth etc.

"List for disposal on July 8, 2024. The respondents are directed to preserve the original OMR sheets belonging to the petitioner in this case," the court said in an order passed on May 20.,

The petitioner, represented by advocate Tanvi Dubey, said that she appeared in NEET UG-2024 on May 5 and found that the sealed cover, the first page of the question paper of Physics part and the OMR sheet were torn vertically.

The petitioner said that he was provided with the new question paper and OMR sheet after a delay of about 30 minutes, but he was given only 10 additional minutes to complete the examination.

The petition alleged that the conduct of the NTA caused hardship to him as he was refused to provide new OMR sheets for about 30 minutes and was finally provided with new OM sheets and question paper after an "unreasonable delay".

She claimed that she had already attempted 60 questions in the old question paper and could not solve all the questions properly with focus and concentration in the new question paper.

“The petitioner has been seriously prejudiced by the act of respondent No. 1 as he was not treated at par with other candidates due to the incidents that took place inside the examination hall.He was not given an opportunity to complete the paper. Like other candidates, his OMR sheet was also torn,” the petition said.

"In the light of the above facts and circumstances, it is most respectfully prayed that this Honorable Court... please issue a declaration or any appropriate writ, order or direction directing the grant of grace marks to respondent No. 1 To the petitioner,” the petition urged the court.
