In Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Dr. Karan Singh, completing 75 years of public service, said that his political life has been extraordinary as he witnessed the entire panorama of India's development and feels honored to serve the nation.

Dr. Karan Singh is the former Sadr-i-Riyasat (President) of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and while speaking to ANI on his 75th birthday, he said, “On June 20, 1949, my father, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji , signed the The document that made me regent. I flew to Srinagar and lived in this house for 75 years. It was quite extraordinary because I saw the whole panorama of Indian development. I also saw the British. 1972 until this recent election, I have seen each and every Prime Minister... It has been a great privilege and a joy for me to render some service to this great country. It has been an honor to serve this great country. , I enjoyed every minute of it.

Talking about the appointment of him as Sadr-i-Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir, he said: "That was a very critical time, the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir was being drafted, the Delhi Agreement had been reached... All that happened during this period".

He further added, "My effort was to keep Jammu and Kashmir balanced...Jammu felt very abandoned for many years. So one of the things I tried to do was to bring regional balance, maintain peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir . and successfully implement the Delhi Agreement."

Appointed regent by his father, Maharaja Hari Singh, in 1949, Dr. Singh exemplified an unwavering commitment to the nation and held numerous prestigious positions over the decades.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr Karan Singh, 93, has been a stalwart of Indian politics and diplomacy, holding the positions of Regent, Sadr-e-Riyasat, Cabinet Minister (without salary), Ambassador to the United States, Member of the Executive Board of UNESCO, Commissioner for Education of UNESCO, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and President of the Auroville Foundation.

Beyond his political duties, Dr. Singh is a prolific author recognized for his academic works on Hinduism and Vedanta. In 1982, he founded Virat Hindu Samaj, which significantly boosted arts and culture, particularly painting and music. His promotional efforts also led to the inclusion of the Dogri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

Notably, he established the Amar Mahal Museum and Library, which houses a notable collection of Kangra Pahari paintings and a vast repository of over 20,000 books.

Dr. Karan Singh's influence extends globally through his contributions to the interfaith movement and as president of the Rumi Foundation. His lifelong patronage of the arts is underlined by his support for the building of temples in Jammu, Pondicherry and the United States.
