Twenty-one bodies were brought to SN Medical College and Hospital here after 121 people were killed in a stampede at a religious gathering in Pulrai village.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Arun Srivastava said that according to the post-mortem report, the people died due to accumulation of blood in the chest cavity, suffocation and injuries to the ribs.

He said bodies of 21 people from Mathura, Agra, Pilibhit, Kasganj and Aligarh etc. were brought to SN Medical College and Hospital and a team of doctors conducted the autopsies.

Family members of the victims started gathering at the post-mortem house on Tuesday night as bodies started arriving there. After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the victim's family.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday announced a judicial inquiry into the Hathras incident.

Police have filed an FIR against the organizers of the congregation, accusing them of hiding evidence and violating the conditions under which 2.5 lakh people had gathered for the event, in which only 80,000 people were allowed.
