Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved an initiative that will provide free kidney and liver transplant services up to Rs 3 lakh to eligible beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Muft Ilaaj Yojana (MMMIY).

According to an official statement, the Chief Minister has also approved the creation of a special fixed kidney and liver transplant package of Rs 3 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY-AB) scheme.

Giving more details, Health Minister Kamal Gupta said on Monday that the BJP government of the state is committed to healthcare reform and patient welfare.

With this new initiative, patients will be able to receive vital kidney and liver transplants at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak without worrying about huge costs, Gupta said.

The decision, he said, is aimed at providing life-saving medical treatment to those who desperately need it, while ensuring that no one is denied essential health care due to financial constraints.

Gupta said that by reducing the financial burden associated with complex medical procedures, the government is paving the way for a future where healthcare is a fundamental right for all, regardless of economic status.

The minister said earlier there was no provision to cover expenses related to kidney or liver transplant under MMMIY.

Gupta said many patients faced insurmountable barriers to receiving the treatments they desperately needed.

He said that the launch of this facility, for the first time in a government healthcare institution, is an important step towards bridging this gap and providing comprehensive care to the most vulnerable sections of the society.
