Gurugram Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday warned officials to take action if they cannot ensure desired cleanliness standards in Gurugram within a week.

In a bid to encourage people to avoid single-use plastics, Saini launched cloth bag vending machines. The machines will be installed in various public places in the city, officials said.

He also flagged 50 new electric vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection, they added.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the public complaints committee here, he said he would himself inspect the city's cleanliness after a week and order action against officials who neglected his responsibilities.

The chief minister chaired the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee meeting and resolved 19 of the 20 issues on the agenda.

He ordered officials to transfer Mayfield Garden Society to the municipal corporation within a week if the property tax is not deposited within a week and to seize the builder's properties.

He also ordered action against the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority's accountant who wrongly measured the area of a pond in Noorpur village.

Before the meeting, Saini flagged off 50 new electric vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection. With this, the total number of such vehicles now exceeds 500, said a senior official.

The new electric vehicles proposed by the prime minister will not only speed up household garbage collection but also help protect the environment, the official said.

The official mentioned that the Gurugram Municipal Corporation is working diligently to improve cleanliness, including door-to-door garbage collection, by increasing vehicles and machinery.

Nineteen Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officials are supervising cleanliness in all wards. Under the SWEEP initiative, garbage collection and dumping are being closely monitored, and secondary points like Khandsa and Vatika Chowk have been converted into zero waste points, the official added.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister inaugurated cloth bag vending machines under the drive to eradicate single-use plastic and polythene bags from Gurugram, according to officials.

These machines will soon be installed in various public places in the city. People can get cloth bags by inserting a Rs 10 coin or using UPI, they said.

Saini also inaugurated sanitary napkin vending machines, which will allow disposal of used sanitary napkins and also provide new ones, they added.
