In Islamabad [Pakistan], Defense Minister Khawaja Asif lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, alleging that following the retirement of former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, the opposition party is asking "someone else" for help, Geo News reported.

Mocking Khan, the senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said: "Hardly anyone has licked as many shoes as the founder."

Addressing the National Assembly, Khwaja Asif cited Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Aun Chaudhry's comments. He alleged that Imran Khan was taken to General (retd) Amjad Awan's house by hiding him in the trunk of a car.

Asif further claimed that the jailed founder made all kinds of desperate requests to seek relief.

"After Bajwa sahib, they are now trying to hold someone else's feet. Hardly anyone has 'licked' as many shoes as the founder," Geo News quoted the federal minister as saying.

These statements come in response to General Secretary Omar Ayub Khan's speech in the lower house of Parliament, in which he harshly criticized the federal government for presenting a budget contrary to the interests of the nation and the country.

"This budget was drawn up by an economic hitman," said Ayub, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

Mocking Ayub, Asif said his speech reminded him of his remarks 20 years ago in which he praised PML-N leaders Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif, the same way he praised founder Imran Khan.

Pakistan's defense minister said the PML-N would appreciate an apology for the May 9 riots that broke out following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

The PML-N leader also criticized the opposition party for writing a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), asking the global lender to link the funding to the audit of alleged election fraud, Geo News reported.

"After being ousted from power, they wanted the country to default," he added.
