New York, Hardik Pandya wore a blue jersey on Wednesday but this time the crowd encouraged him instead of making fun of the all-rounder.

The blue jersey Pandya wore on Wednesday was India's and not the dark blue Mumbai Indians jersey in which he stood in front of the intense storm during IPL 2024.

Here, Pandya played a vital role with his fast-medium stuff which saw him take three wickets and "enjoyed hitting the stumps."

"Playing for the country is always special, the World Cup is something I have been able to contribute to," Hardik told broadcasters during the innings break during India's T20 World Cup match against Ireland.

After enduring the most horrific two and a half months of his cricket career as MI captain, Pandya once again looked home to the India Blues. He bowled those four invaluable overs which his skipper Rohit Sharma will need more of in the coming days to bring about a change in the team combination.

On helpful tracks, he bowled 72 per cent of the balls (as per the pitch map) either on length or slightly less than good length.

Of the 72 per cent, 44 per cent were pitched on good lengths, giving the ball a chance to swing and movement off the surface.

“I really liked the first wicket. Generally, don't hit the stumps very often, my tendency is to bowl back of length. But on this wicket, I needed to be very full to stay in the game. Yes, if you bowl short, the ball can fly,” Pandya said.

While Lorcan Tucker's first dismissal saw the ball bounce back and topple middle stump, Curtis Campher was dismissed by a delivery that pitched on a length and went away from the seam.

After facing constant trolling on social media and booing at every Indian venue, the loud cheers of approval for his brilliant bowling performance must have been music to his ears.

“It is always great to see the crowd supporting us, we Indians are everywhere, we rule the world. It's great to have so much support, many thanks to them,” he said.
