Jammu, Holistic Agricultural Development Program (HADP) is a game-changer for agriculture and allied sector of Jammu and Kashmir that could address the challenges faced by farmers, said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Sinha was speaking after inaugurating the Litchi Festival and an agricultural exhibition organized by the horticulture department here on Sunday.

Addressing a gathering at the event, "HADP has emerged as a game-changer for J&K's agriculture and allied sector. Twenty-nine projects of HADP have the potential to address the challenges faced by farmers and will diversify income sources" .

He said this unique initiative is a commitment of his administration towards the welfare of farmers and determination to explore new avenues for their prosperity.

Sinha said progressive reforms and policies of the administration are being implemented to harness the potential of agriculture and horticulture sectors in the Union Territory.

He extended his congratulations to all stakeholders and called for collective efforts for effective field implementation of HADP, especially in Jammu division.

The Lt Governor asked the agricultural universities to carry out specific interventions that can help increase the income of farmers in the Litchi plantation sector.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has set a target of converting around 160 hectares used for litchi cultivation into high-density plantations in the coming years. He assured all necessary support and assistance from the administration to achieve this objective.

He also praised the contribution of farmers who encourage small and marginal farmers towards crop diversification.

The Lt Governor visited the stalls set up by the farmers and businessmen and also congratulated the winners with the best stalls. A book on litchi cultivation was also published on the occasion.
