Motihari (Bihar), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a strong attack on the Congress, accusing its top leaders including first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of 'opposing' reservation for deprived castes.

Modi claimed, "Had Baba Saheb Ambedkar not been there, Nehru would never have agreed to reservation for SC, ST and OBC. Nehru had made his views clear on this issue by writing letters to the then Chief Ministers of the country." Rally in East Champaran Lok Sabha constituency of Bihar.

The PM said, "This has been the specialty of the Congress under successive Prime Ministers. Be it Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi, everyone opposed reservation. SC, ST and OBC never got respect from the Congress."

Attacking the opposition for spreading "lies", Modi alleged that the BJP could end the quota by changing the Constitution if returned to power with a thumping majority.

"The truth is that we are protecting the rights of the deprived castes" the Prime Minister claimed as he touted his government's measures to claim that "I am only with the BJP-led NDA that SC, ST And the rights of OBCs are protected”.

Modi also accused the India Bloc of planning to give reservation benefits "on the basis of religion".

Modi alleged, "They want to do this because now they have only one vote bank left. They no longer have the support of SC, ST and OBC, so they now only care about those doing vote jihad."
