New Delhi, Gross Value Added (GVA) of unincorporated sector enterprises grew by 9.83 per cent at current price between October 2022 and September 2023 compared to the period April 2021 to March 2022 , according to a government survey.

According to the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), the top three states in terms of GVA were Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat in 2021-22 and Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in 2022-23.

The total number of establishments in the sector has increased from 5.97 crore in 2021-22 to 6.50 crore in 2022-23, representing an annual growth of 5.88 per cent, it said.

Among the broad sectors covered, the number of establishments in other service sectors has been the highest in ASUSE 2022-23 (37.88 percent), followed by commerce (34.71 percent) and manufacturing (27.41 percent). hundred).

According to the survey, more than 40 percent of establishments in this sector are engaged in retail trade (around 30 percent) or clothing manufacturing (around 11 percent).

Among major states, the largest number of establishments (rural and urban combined) is in Uttar Pradesh, followed by West Bengal and Maharashtra.

The unincorporated non-agricultural sector employed around 11 million workers between October 2022 and September 2023, up from 9.8 crore in ASUSE 2021-22.

More than a third of this workforce was employed in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The proportion of female workers has increased marginally from 25.52 percent in ASUSE 2021-22 to 25.63 percent in ASUSE 2022-23.

About 54 percent of owner establishments were observed to be run by women owners in the manufacturing sector, according to ASUSE 2021-22 and ASUSE 2022-23.

Among the categories of activity, it is observed that other retail, followed by garment manufacturing and other community, social and personal services, have reported the highest number of establishments and hired maximum number of workers at the all-India level .

Fixed assets owned by an unincorporated non-agricultural establishment have increased on average from Rs 2,81,013 in ASUSE 2021-22 to Rs 3,18,144 in ASUSE 2022-23.

Internet use for business purposes has increased by 7.2 percent, indicating a rapid rate of digitalization in the sector.

About 54 per cent of the manufacturing sector's own establishments were run by women entrepreneurs, he said.
