Guwahati (Assam) [India], Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has successfully completed its first cadaver kidney transplant.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the Health Minister, on Saturday said that, after the brain-dead patient's family members donated two kidneys of a brain-dead patient, a team of specialist doctors at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital Did this successfully. Kidney transplant to two other patients.

“We are very grateful to the family members of the brain-dead patient. The team of expert doctors from GMCH successfully performed the kidney transplant here and it is the first in Guwahati as well as North East India. The kidney was transplanted in two others CM Sarma said, if we start the culture of donating kidneys of brain-dead patients, it will save many lives.

He further said, 'We will also try to do liver transplant in Guwahati.'

The Assam Chief Minister also said that GMCH doctors also successfully delivered the baby through IVF.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "GMCH doctors implanted embryos in 36 and 8 women were pregnant and conducted one caesarean birth. The cost of IVF at GMCH is around Rs 75,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Also performed 28 bone marrow transplants at GMCH Went."

He further said that more than 53,000 patients in GMCH get the benefits of PM schemes.
