Gurugram: As a precautionary measure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed one lane of the Hero Honda Chowk flyover here for traffic after a portion of it caved in and its plaster was damaged. The officer gave this information on Wednesday.

An official said six NHAI staff have been deployed to prevent any accident due to the 20-metre damaged portion.

A committee of three experts has also been formed by NHAI to investigate the matter and send a report on the cause of damage to the flyover within the next seven days, the official said.

According to Gurugram Traffic Police, plaster fell from a part of the flyover on Sunday night. On Monday, one lane of the flyover on the Delhi-Jaipur road was closed for traffic.

"About two feet of plaster had fallen from the Hero Honda flyover, due to which barriers have been installed and one lane has been closed for traffic. Our policemen are on duty and traffic is smooth on three lanes without any hindrance. NHAI DC officials are getting it repaired,” said DC Traffic Virendra Vij.

The 1400 meter long flyover was constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 200 crore. Its construction began in 2014 and was completed in 2017.

Several cases of such damage to flyovers have been reported. The Jaipur-Delhi stretch was damaged twice in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, the upper portion of the flyover was demolished and rebuilt. Last year, Gurugram police had arrested four people from the construction company for using substandard material in the construction of the flyover in connection with a case registered in 2019.
