AHMEDABAD: An SUV, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy, hit a teenage girl in Ahmedabad, causing serious head injuries, police said on Saturday, soon after the Pune car accident.

The accused boy, who was allegedly driving the Fortuner involved in the accident, has been taken into custody. A Gujarat Police official said, prima facie, he was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

N-division traffic police inspector KP Sagathiya said the accident occurred near the victim's house in Thaltej area on Friday evening when she was traveling through the road towards a nearby market.

The police officer said that the 16-year-old injured girl is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

"According to eyewitnesses, the Fortuner was being driven at high speed at the time of the accident. After hitting the girl, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a nearby vacant plot. Locals caught hold of the driver and Called the police,” Sagathiya said.

He said two friends of the teenage driver were with him in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The police officer said the Fortuner was found to be registered in the name of the minor's elder brother and the accused has been taken into custody.

“He was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Sagathiya said. He said that further investigation is going on.

Notably, on May 19, a Porsche car allegedly driven by a teenage boy hit a motorcycle in Pune, killing two IT professionals. According to the police, the minor was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident.
