Rajkot, the father of a 20-year-old engineering student, who died in the TRP gaming zone fire in Gujarat's Rajkot city on May 25, has moved the district consumer disputes redressal commission, seeking a compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the company that ran the ill-fated facility for the death of his son.

Twenty-seven people lost their lives in the fire that occurred in the playing area.

One Rasik Vekaria, a businessman, has moved the Rajkot District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission demanding compensation and punitive damages of Rs 20 lakh from the company for its negligent approach and deficiency in service, the Tuesday his lawyer Gajendra Jani.

Vekaria has sought compensation alleging that his only son, Nirav, a second-year engineering student, had a brilliant academic career ahead of him before the tragedy occurred due to the negligence of the company and his partners.

The collector, police commissioner and Rajkot municipal commissioner were also involved in order to submit all documentary evidence related to this complaint, Jani said.

Justice K M Dave has issued notices to nine respondents, including Raceway Enterprises, its partners, as well as the collector, police commissioner and Rajkot municipal commissioner, he said.

Vekaria's complaint was filed on June 29 and notices were issued on July 6. The matter will be heard on August 2.

According to the complaint, Raceway Enterprises and its partners offered their products through various types of advertising for activities such as gaming, entertainment, sports and racing under the name TRP Game Zone.

"Attracted by such description, Nirav and other customers were attracted to the gaming area and paid the amount fixed by it to enjoy its various products such as trampoline, artificial climbing wall, racing, bowling, jumping, etc.," is stated in the complaint. .

When the fire broke out on May 25, Nirav and others were unable to safely exit the play area and died prematurely in the fire, he said.

The complaint accuses the company of being negligent regarding the safety of its customers by failing to make fire extinguishers available or provide insurance coverage. Nirav, the company's customer, received defective service from the company and died due to his negligence, he said.

"The complaint demands that the partners of the company and the owners of the place where the company used to operate pay a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of deceased Nirav Vekaria," Jani said.
