AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau has contacted 900 complainants in bribery cases at their doorsteps to ensure that they are not harassed and given adequate security, an official said on Saturday.

He said the move is part of the agency's 'CARE' or applicant care and responding effectively programme, which was launched on January 26 this year.

"Under this programme, ACB officers personally contact the complainants at their residence or workplace to find out about the harassment and take necessary action for its appropriate and amicable redressal. Under this program (after its launch "More than 900 complainants have been contacted. Due to this, the confidence of complainants and citizens towards ACB has increased. This has led to more citizens filing corruption cases," an ACB release said.

A total of 104 cases of bribery have been registered so far this year, along with 10 cases of disproportionate assets involving government employees, while disproportionate assets worth Rs 25 crore were disclosed, the release said Is.

"To improve the conviction rate in bribery cases, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Assistant Director of each unit. Due to the initiatives taken by the committee, the conviction rate has reached 46 percent in the first quarter of this year. “The government provides expert services to conduct thorough investigation and collect better evidence in bribery cases and disproportionate assets cases,” it said.

The release further said that continuous awareness campaigns are being conducted to involve more people in the anti-bribery campaign.
