Ahmedabad, On the eve of Lok Sabha elections, around 16 schools in Ahmedabad on Monday received an email threatening bomb blasts, although a police statement said it was a hoax as searches did not find anything suspicious. .

Eleven of these schools have been designated as polling stations for the Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Shara Singhal said.

Singhal said that of the 16 schools, 12 are in the city and four are on the outskirts.

"The content of the email sent to these schools is similar to the email sent to Delhi schools recently. The email was sent using the Russian domain 'mail.ru'.Nothing suspicious was found during the search operation conducted in all these schools. This was clearly a fake call, Singhal told reporters.

A statement from Ahmedabad City Crime Branch said that after being alerted, police along with teams from Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Doo Squad and Crime Branch reached these schools and conducted thorough searches.

“No explosives were found during the search operation. Our teams are patrolling these areas and technical surveillance has also been started regarding the person sending the email.We appeal to people not to panic and stay away from rumours. This threat was a rumour,” the statement said.

It told citizens, ignore this email (sent to schools) and exercise your voting right tomorrow without any fear.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber ​​Crime Cell) Lavina Sinha said that the domain of the email was outside India and the content was similar to that recently received by Delhi schools.

The schools which received the threat email include DPS and Anand Niketan in Bopal, Udgam School on SG Highway, Calorux School in Ghatlodiya, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Chandkheda and Army Cantonment on Airport Road.Dhimant Choksi, administrator of Ascension School, said, "The sender has threatened to blow up our school. Our school has 24-hour security and NEET was conducted on our campus yesterday. We have not received any parcel from outside and our doors were also closed."

District education officer Rohit Chaudhary said that after receiving the email, schools informed the local police, while his department updated the control room.

Voting will be held on 25 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat on Tuesday.
